When should I introduce a new duck?

iyiy Jan 07, 2006 10:06 PM

One of my ducks just died, and I'm thinking about getting a duckling to keep the surviving duck company. When would be the best time for the duckling to be introduced to my duck?

you wouldnt want to put a duckling in with a new duck until its about 6-8 weeks old. The older duck will most likely try to kill the baby.

How old is the duck you have and how old will the new duck you bring home be? Wehn ever I introduce new ducks to the ones I already have I put the new ones in a cage, small petn, whatever you choose and put it where the ducks that I already have can walk up and smell and look over the new ones. I usually leave them in the pen a couple of days, depends on how big or small the new one is. Then when you put them together watch them and make sure the old one isn't too aggressive with the new kid. The old one will surely bite the new one a little but that's just to show it who is boss! good luck,
