Hi all,
I had recently been watching these two pigeons who had laid 2 eggs on my balcony. A few days ago, though, a different pigeon (who I think must have been poisoned-it was horrible) died on the balcony and the parent pigeons abandoned the nest. After waiting for 5 hours for the parents to come back and not seeing them at all I decided to bring the eggs in. I made a very simple incubator and candled the eggs 2 days ago to see if they were still alive (the eggs were 7 days old at that point) and the eggs looked exactly like pictures I saw online of eggs at this point. I then candled the eggs today and the embryos are indeed progressing. One is moving and both have developed air sacs.
My question is: what do I do when the babies hatch? I have been discouraged by people from trying to take care of these guys as I have no experience but I have made the decision to do this and really would love some advice. Has anyone else raised a pigeon or dove from a hatchling? Please, if anyone can give me links or information that would help me and the pigeons out, please let me know.
