When do they change so you know male from female.

Also, I noticed one had foam coming from its mouth and it kept swallowing and swallowing over and over, it finally went away and the duck seems okay now. Could it be the chicken feed I am feeding them, i noticed it was medicated. They are about 6 weeks old.

Also, why do their breasts swell up, are they eating my fish in my pond?? The pars under their neck/breat area seems to get real big like they swallowed a baseball, what is that??

Kenlyn, it takes a while to be able to tell if they are male/female. It will probably take several months or even longer. I cannot remember how long it took until I could tell..

My baby ducks had mucous (white foamy stuff as you said) coming from their mouths. It killed one of my babies, but I was fortunate enough to save the other 4. I gave them some tetracycline med. and that has helped them and they have fully recovered, thank goodness. You get so close to them
If you are going to try giving yours that med. then call your vet and ask how much to give them. I have tetracycline pills that I mixed the pill powder up with their grain.

The crop is full from eating. Baby ducks always get a full crop after eating, usually. Some don't know when to quit!!!

They could be eating your fish. What kind do you have, how small are they???

How many baby ducks do you have? Well, I hope your little one gets better and let us know how it goes.

Genny
