chickens for KS....

brettmc Oct 03, 2006 12:34 AM

Hey all i'm new here and I've decided that I'm going to get my mom a chicken or two for christmas. I'm looking for a hen, that will cope well in the south central part of KS. I'm not for sure on the town policies on livestock inside of the city limits but its a town of less than 500 people, and I know of people that have some them selves. The house that they have has a fairly large back yard with a regular chain length fence all around it, what can you all recommend for me, first where to buy and also what species would work out best?
Thanks for all the help you can give,
Brett

McMurrayHatchery.com has a wide veriety of birds and they are of very high quality. The only thing is that the minimum order for day old chicks is 25. How many chickens are you looking to get? What kind of coop/enclosure will they have? My favorites are all bantams/miniture chickens: Japanese, silkies, and cochins. They are very sweet and mellow birds. Even the roosters. Good luck. Let me know how it goes
