can you keep ducks indoors?

lizzee Jun 26, 2007 02:17 PM

probably a duuuuummmmb newbie question....but i've been reading up on ducks, the different breeds and their temperments, and i've run across some info suggesting that you can, in fact, keep a duck as an indoor pet. now i'm going back and researching in earnest, but darn if i can find any good solid info on pet ducks. i have a quaker, a black headed caique, and am getting her a baby brother caique this weekend, and i figure if i can handle having caiques, i can handle a duck. am i very very mistaken? i've heard they can be very snuggly and clean, they might need diapers, but....so do the other fids!
i've just always loved ducks, and olive, the caique reminds me of one. so....is it do.able? or am i just nuts to even want to try.
in case it would matter, i'm leaning toward the ancona [quiet and gorgeous!] and maybe a cayuga?
school me, duck folks. =]
