Every time you go to refill the feeder it needs to be cleaned and scrubbed thoroughly which is usually every day if the feeder is a very popular one. Most definitely you do not want to leave old solution in the feeder more than 3 days as the sugar ferments and sours and can make the birds sick.
Pretty much the only thing you might attract outside of hummingbirds to a hummingbird feeder are wasps and ants. Occasionally/rarely you may get a baltimore orieol if you live in their range but if that happens you should then put up a orieol feeder as the solution they prefer is a bit different.
