Is to find a liscenced wildlife rehabber and place the animal with them - They will know how to properly care for any species of bird -
It is illegal to keep any north american native bird without permit (and permits are verry hard to obtain) And if fish and game finds that you have the bird as a pet, it will likely be destroyed, and you will likely be $fined$ -
Now, more on the current situation - Till' you find a rehabber, what to do with the bird ?
1 - Keep it quiet and safe - A cardboard box, with papertowels in it should do fine, along with a 25 watt lamp, and a screen over the top -
2 - Do not give it water, if its a baby, theres a good chance it could drown -
3 - Determine exactly what species it is - Are you sure its a crow, and not a starling or grackle ? Starlings are an pest exotic, and can legally be kept as pets, (and make fine ones!) and grackles are, like crows a native wild bird, and therefore are just as illegal to have - in any case, if you cannot ID it, or its deffenetly a crow, I would give it semi soft catfood or soaked dogfood, and things like chopped mice, and mouse pinks, untill you can a rehabber to place it with -
I can not emphisize enough, For a native wild bird, that the best thing for the bird and its futre, along with you, would be to place it, Where people are knowladgeable about careing for and feeding a bird with verry specific care, and everything else associated, to grow up to be a releasable animal - Young birds are prone to all sort of health problems, and growth deformities, and rehabbers would know how to treat, and avoid causing these things -
