A baby cassin's kingbird was brought into a local pet store today. It had somehow got string wrapped around one of its wings, causing it to not grow properly. I work for the division of wildlife, and volunteered to take it, since the other option was euthinasia. (There aren't any rehabilitators within a reasonable distance that will take songbirds-especially something common like this.)
Does anyone have tips on feeding? I've read up as much as I can, but haven't found much on how often to feed it. I haven't tried raising a baby bird before-I have more experience with raising mammals and amphibians. The bird is an insect eater-adults primarily eat flying insects, so I've been trying to feed it a variety of insects. Any ideas on other food sources? I don't want to feed it all one thing, especially while it develops, in case it is missing some nutrient it needs. It eats well, it will take anything I drop in it's mouth, and doesn't seem to be ill aside from the wing which I hope will catch up now it is free. It has most of its adult feathers, but hasn't fledged yet.
Thanks in advance
