Found a Fledgling- but not old enough to fly

lacie143 Jul 17, 2003 11:45 PM

I found a bird- i think it maybe a morning dove- in my backyard today after a pretty bad storm. (I live in s.e. louisiana, near new orleans) We have alot of animals in are neighborhood, including my dogs, and it can't fly, so i've taken it in until it can. Hes almost got all his feathers except for on his head. Hes pretty calm right now. I have some suet food (its like a weird mush of stuff that birds seem to love, ava. at walmart) with some millet and of course water. I have a decent amount of experince with birds (teils, quakers, love birds etc.) I'm looking for advice. Tomorrow i'm going to try and see if i can find somewhere will they will actually take care of it and not just euthanise it. (You'd be surprised at what they do) Any help confirming or identifying him would help. Thanks

were you able to find help? Your local Audubon Society or an animal shelter can give you names of Wildlife Rehabilitators. For future reference here is a link to Rehabbers in LA.

I just rescued a cat bird from a neighbor's cat(not even fledged, must have taken it right out of the nest - GRRRR!!!) and got it to a local rehabber - so I hope for the best
