hand feeding

i need some tips on feeding baby jays, i havent got any now but i will have soon(i carnt say why but u know the reason)it wont be for some time(the nests only just been built)but i need to get a few things sorted out.i know u feed them high proten stuff like bits of pinkie mice and chicks, crikets and worms and the like but i dont know how often(seems to range from every half an hour to every 3) have i got anything wrong? thanks for any help or tips.(please dont go on abut taking birds or anything, its got to be better than letting them starve and freeze)

Hiya,

I would suggest taking some courses through your local wildlife rehabilitation group. Jays require a certain diet and unfortunately rats and mice isn't it. In fact that is more raptor diet than corvid diet. I think it is great you want to help them. Just try to keep in mind there are laws to protect birds and you might be breaking them. Being educated on their diet and housing is very important. Espcially once they reach play pen size then onto flight cage size. Enjoy and good luck
