Can someone help me ID a hawk from a movie please?

Ryan Shackleton Jul 29, 2004 10:18 PM

If anyone's seen Kickboxer with Jean-Claude Van Damme could you tell me what the hawk is that always follows him around? Also, is that a Thai native bird or just a setup for the movie?
Thanks

Sorry I can't help you, never caught that movie. The most common hawks used in movies are red-tailed hawks, which are usually brownish above, brown faces, white or pale underparts, and have distinctive brick red tails. If that happens to fit the desciption of the Kickboxer hawk, than nope, it is not a native Thai bird.

Nope, not a redtail. This one had a reddish body. It had a white head, and was somewhere between a peregrine falcon and a redtail in size(hard to be more exact, there wasn't usually anything in the frame for scale). I can usually figure these things out but can't find this one in any of ,my books.

Aha, a challenge. Brahminy kites have reddish bodies, white heads, and are about the size you described. Plus, they can be found in Thailand. Here's a website with some photos:

If that's not it, I'm stumped for the time being. Give me some more details on color or shape and I'll try again.
