Looking for a unique bird

dkbutterfly Aug 22, 2004 04:46 AM

Ever since I was really little I've always had a love of birds and animals in general. (I'm 19 now) I'm getting my first apartment in about a month and the landlord said that the only animals she was comfortable with having in the house were birds. She said she didn't mind what type, she just preferred birds over any other animals. I am considering a beautiful bird like a bluejay or something like a raven or crow, they are beautiful and unique. I know the laws on ravens and crows are really strict. Any loopholes? And what about other unique birds, like the bluejay? I tried to do a little research and didn't really get anything I was looking for. Thanks everyone for the help.

Well as for ravens and crows, you can legally keep non-native corvids as pets, and they are a wonderful alternative. Non-natives include jackdaws, rooks, pied crows, white-necked ravens, etc.

The best breeder of these corvids is Brian at The Corvid Ranch.

I'm not sure about bluejays, but I'm sure someone here will know:

this is a very good group to join, since it gives you an oppertunity to learn about corvids as pets from owners of them.

Good Luck!
