We miss our crow...

Only 2 years ago, our crow passed away. It was terribly sad. I am posting here because I didnt know you could actually purchase one as a pet.
We didnt go looking for a crow, in fact we wanted a large parrot. But we caught wind of someone who had stolen a baby from the nest, injuring it in the process. (We didnt know he was injured yet.) anyways, the old man who was caring for him fell ill, and gave him to the owner of the pet store I was working for.
So, the owner took him home. He drove her crazy and she ended up putting him in the dark bathromm at all houors to shut him up. Poor fellow...
She got so tired of him, he was just going to release him. Knowing he was a hand raised crow, we argued and told her this was inhumane on all levels. A hawk would certainly notice the gimpy crow, who also could not not fly, and would become the easiest meal of the year. After much debate, she promised us the crow. But she put the fear in us that it was highly illegal to have a crow. If anyone knew of him, fish and game would collect him, give us a hefty fine, and return him to the wild. We believed her.
By the way, I quit that store, for obvious reasons, and the store was closed due to health concerns of the animals at the store.
To make my long story short, we absolutely loved Joe. I dont think he knew he was a crow. But he was my good friend.
We had him for only 2 short years. He ended up falling or jumping into our very small pond, not even 2 feet deep. We think since his hip and leg were cripled, he got in and couldnt hop out. His feathers got heavy with water and he drowned.
I suppose my question is that you can legally have a crow? We could have taken him to vet? They certainly do amazing things. Probably could have fixed his leg.
Love you crow and certainly watch out for him. We never would have made apond if we would have thought...

You can legally buy and own non-native corvids. There are those who breed crow and raven species from other countries and you can own them. One such place is the Corvid Ranch. Their website is http://www.corvitude.com/corvidranch.html
