Recently I climbed the steps to our barn here in York, PA to find a HUGE nest sitting high up on a platform near the peak of the roof.

The nest is around 3 feet tall, wider at the base and perhaps 22 1/2 feet wide at the base and mayne 1' - 1 1/2 ' wide at the mouth.

Last week I planted some mew grass, after wondering where all the straw from the previpous month went; now I know! It is nearly 100% made of straw I just laid out within the past month.

We do not uise the second floor of our barn (which peaks at three stories) but we have a couple of barn cats who live up there; one girl has babies now. So whatever bird this is must not be intimidated by the presence of cats...

I am not a regular here; just popped in to get some advice - eventually I would like to find this bird some 'external' housing, as I plan to seal the barn as part of a restoration project... but especially if it is a rodent killer I'd like to keep them (?) around.

I have pics of the nest but do not know how to post - I could send them though if you'd like to take a shot at ID-ing the bird from a pic of the nest.

Thank you,

Landon Johnson
