Beardie not going to the bathroom

JoeyP Oct 12, 2003 06:54 PM

Anyone have any ideas on how to get my beardie to go to the bathroom. Normally if she hasn't gone in a few days I just give her a bath and it comes right out, but not this time. Since the last time she's went, I've tried rasing her basking temp (but she never wants to be there, she's been laying in her hiding spot ALOT lately), I've given her alot of very warm baths. I'm thinking she's not impacted (I could be wrong though) because when at the point I noticed she wasn't going, it had only been veggies that she was eaten. I've tried feeding her about a dozen crickets (which most of the time she doesen't even want anymore), and she's had a few silkworms. She's also not eating very well, which may or may not be related. One more thing I haven't tried yet (which I will) is to take her for a drive, after about 30 mins she normally goes. But I was wondering if anyone else has any ideas. I thought I've heard people talking about oil, mineral oil I think, does that work? What about canola, or vegetable oil?

About a year /- 3 months. I just went and picked up some mineral oil and gave her about 3 drops or so, we'll see if that helps move things along. I'll give her another bath when I get home from work tomarrow.

She's old enough to brumate..that may be what's happening. I've got one I haven't seen eat in 2 weeks. She just sits in her hidey and looks dazed.

If she want's to brumate that's fine, but I'd would feel alot better about it if she didn't have a gut full of crickets and silkworms. I suppose if that's the case, after I get this out of her, I'll leave the live food alone, and just offer salad, and let her do her thing. I was thinking it could be that since she NEVER want's to be in the light anymore, she might come out and wander around a little in the morning, maybe poke at her salad a little, and then back to sleep she goes. But even if she want's to brumate, wouldn't she know enough to get the waste out of her system first?

I just dealt with the same thing with one of my males. He ate superworms and went back to his hide log (partially brumating). It took him a week, but he decided to leave me a lovely load. I did catch him basking the day he finally went.
