Community Aquarium

I was thinking of putting together a Community of different relatively inexpensive(under $25) herps. I wanted to do a more humid enviroment, and a pool of water. Question #1: What is a good size tank for about 3 different small-medium sized species? Question #2: I wanted to put in Small Turtles(Red Eared Sliders, etc.),geckoes(under $25), and/or small lizards(small skinks, anoles, etc), what would be good species to put in the tank? Question #3: What specific areas should i Have for each species and what size should it be? Question #4: How many food/water(i will be misting too) bowls should I have, how many hide boxes? Question #5: What should temperatures be? Question #6: What substrates and decor shoul I use? Thanks!

I really would shy away from this sort of set up. There are too many problems inherant with mixing species in a small contained environment. What is good for one may not be so good for the other and so on. A lizard acidently getting into the pool of water might get chomped on by the slider. Keeping the slider's water filtered and cleaned might be problematic and the other animals drinking the slider's water might have some problem.

If you do not have the luxury of making a HUGE set up where these animals can avoid each other it really isn't a sensible thing to do.

If you do have the luxury of being able to make an enormous habitat then I suggest you do research and only put species in that all come from the same area.

Bad idea... Mixing species is never a good idea. I almost crapped when you put.. Oh some small turtles like RES... HAHA do you even know how big they get? Obviously not, females can get up to 13in! Does that sound small! Males get about 8-10in still not to small in my book. Hope you stray away from this idea.

With a little research, you'll be able to find reptiles that will thrive in similar evironments... temperature, humidity, light, radiation requirements, etc. You cannot mix species with different requirements, becuase you will kill whichever animals are not being properly provided for. In the case of turtles, you cannot mix Sliders with reptiles. Sliders are 100% aquatic turtles. They require a large volume of water to swim, eat, and sleep in. The water they live in requires heavy filtration or frequent total water changes. Above all else, lizards and other reptiles are basically aquatic turtle food, and Sliders will exhaust themselves trying to catch whatever living creatures you add to their habitat. You may find a specie of tortoise or other land-turtle that can peacefully cohabitat with other reptiles. Good luck with your new setup.
