Herpin Kingston, NY

rattlerman May 28, 2003 12:58 AM

Today was a pretty good day of herpin in NY. After downloading a bunch of sattelite images, we went up to this old growth forest. Unfortunatley the only way there is to go up this private property, and cut up the ridge. On the way up i pulled a nice sized milk snake from under a tin slab. After about 3 hours of this, the milk was still the only snake i found. I also pulled a nice sized spotted salamander from an old rock wall, and had a nice run in with a bob cat. Sadley enough, the snake we were looking for, the copperhead was nowhere to be found.

Did you get any pics of the bobcat? I've always wanted to see one of those in the wild... alive... I've found two DOR.

It is off Deleware Ave. It is an old growth forest that Huck Industries Built on. I know somebody that works there, and he said it was ok for me to cut up throgh their property. I got some great pictures of the milk snake, and the salamander. I only wish i could have gotten one of the bob-cat.

If you go to this link,

you can go to the endangered forests, then deleware avenue forest to see the remaining parts of the forest.

I'm just curious as I grew up in Lake Katrine in the late 60s, early 70s. I'm guessing you guys may be a bit younger than that but doesn't hurt to ask.
Kingston was a great place to grow up back then, lots of woods and mountains and great fishing!

Yes, i still actually live in kingston. Im right down the road from lake katrine. There are still alot of woods, and supreme fishing. Where are you located now?
