Dolichopodidae???

pilonm Aug 02, 2006 10:09 AM

Hello,

I took this picture of this little fly with green metallic reflection found on my cedar hedge in my yard in Quebec Canada (near the Vermont border). I think that this fly is from the Dolichopodidae family. Am I right? Can we know the gender/species from the picture???

Thank you for your help!

Michel,

Yes on it being Dolichopodidae. Genus: Condylostylus. Not sure on the species. It may take some time to ID. There are over 2000 species in Dolichopodidae.

The interesting thing is that many fossils from this family of Diptera are found in amber.

Hello Lizardman

Thank you very much for identifying the genus! Thank you also for you comment about the amber. I didn't know that!

Take care,

Michel,
