I'm 17 in Canada and I recently caught a young queen carpenter ant that was flying around my house. Right now I'm keeping her in a CD case with chambers made of cotton and non-toxic playdough. She didn't seem happy at first but I added green tea to the dry chamber and she layed about ten eggs within three days. The tea looked most like frass I found at other nests but I wasn't sure if they nested in it or if it was only waste material.

After the eggs have hatched I need to transfer them to a larger enclosure but it has to be escape-proof. The queen ant already chewed through fibreglass from the first enclosure and a wood frame seems like a bad choice. I tried to make an aluminium/glass case but again I was worried that there wouldn't be adequit air supply and mould would grow as it did with my last ant colony. This time I want to add a removable feeding/water tubes so that doesn't happen again.

The net has a lot of info on how to kill ants and that's about it.

Thanks for reading.
