Syrphidae identification please...?

pilonm Oct 26, 2006 03:45 PM

Hello,

Last july, I photographied this little fly around a marsh in Sherbrooke Quebec (near Vermont/Maine).

At first sight, we can easily recognized a Syrphidae... But what about the genum and the species?

Thank you again for your precious help!

Great pictures, Michel.

Genus is probably: Sphaerophoria. species, I'm not sure, there are too many to go through; maybe "scriptans", but that's about as close as I got.

If you find it, let us know.

Hello Lizardman,

Thank you very much for your help! You're right with the genus Spaerophoria (confirm by others). The species cannot be determined without looking at the internal genital organs of the male... So, it will be Sphaerophoria Sp.

Ciao!

Michel

PS. Thank you for the appreciation of the pictures
