Fly identification needed please...

pilonm Nov 06, 2006 09:06 PM

Hello,

Even if I tried very hard, I don't come with any idea about the species, the genum and even the family of this fly who was resting on a lilac leaf last July at Sherbrooke Quebec (near Vermont/Maine)... Can someone help me with this one?

Thanks again!

Michel

Hello Jeroen,

At first I thought you were right about the species of this one...

But after some searches I did not find any mentions of S. carnaria in Quebec neither in North América...

Any comments?

Bye and thank you!

Michel

Hmmm im sorry for my ignorance lol
It just might be Wohlfahrtia magnifica in that case, its a striking resemblance and it is new world.
Follow the link to an image of Wohlfahrtia magnifica: http://bdm.typepad.com/photos/myiases_ovines/02_wohlfahrtia_magnifica.html

Have a great day,

Hello Jeroen,

I got several answers and all of them looks like my butterfly... So I will stay with Sarcophaga sp just to be sure to not do an identification error...

Thank you very much for your help!

Michel
