unknown insects

jones1212 Dec 02, 2006 08:56 PM

hello

i was wondering if anybody could help me. I have found some insects in my bedroom under my bed on the carpet and also in my bed side cabinet ( god knows how they got there) they are about the size of a grain of salt, maybe even smaller and are a white/cream colour there seems to be loads of them.

does anybody have any idea what they are? are they harmful? how did they get there? etc etc

sorry for limited info but they are so small and they is nothing else to see of them. i know nothing about insects so sorry if this is to obvious.

cheers

Without a picture of some type, it's virtually impossible to even guess what Genus or species they may be. My WAG would be some species of mite. It's probably nothing to worry too much about. If your household has a lot of humidity in the air or moisture within the flooring area & near food, it may have caused a mite population explosion.

Again, I am just guessing as there are thousands of species of arthropods on Earth.

I would suggest the least "pesticidal" method possible. I'd vacuum them up. Remove all sources: of moisture, humidity (maybe use a de-humidifier), food sources (crumbs, opened pantry foods, etc.). Keep doing that until they die off. One last thing, put a moth ball (paradichlorobenzene) in the vacuum bag/receptacle--(that will kill the ones that you vacuum-up).

I hate to bring this up but couldnt they be 'crabs' aka pubic lice ? Did you have any itches as of late ?
Heres a picture of what they look like: http://www.healthac.org/images/crabs.html
If it is them heres how you get rid of 'em (bottom of page) plus some more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pubic_lice
