Big ant to identify ???

pilonm Feb 03, 2007 06:13 PM

Hello,

I took those 2 pictures of large ant ant at the "Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge" near Concord, Massachussets, during a business trip last August 31st...

For an ant, it was big!

Is it possible to identify it? (family, genum, species)???

Thank you very much for your help!

Without the ant here to key out, it's almost impossible to tell exactly what it is. I will take an educated guess however and say it might be a Camponotus spp.

That is a Camponotus pennsylvanicus major.
