Right now I want to say it's a Messor species. I am almost certain of it. Here you can find some pictures of them but don't use it to ID your ants. Not all species are present. http://www.myrmecos.net/myrmicinae/messor.html

I'm from Sweden, but grew up in South America. The ants are from southern Spain, in desert like areas.
The species name I PM'd you probably isn't correct then but Messor is likely the genus.
