ant identification- pics

embean Jun 11, 2007 11:52 AM

This is probably a longshot, but I was wondering if anyone knows what type of ant this are. We have them in our house and are concerned that they may be a kind of carpenter ant. They are quite large for my area (Ottawa, ON) - a bit more than 1 centimeter in length. They sometimes have brownish middle-sections. We've also had small black house ants and these are very different and MUCH larger. Also, they don't die when you spray them with Raid ant spray.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
In a couple of pics, I threw a penny in for size comparison.
