Does anyone know what this insect is?

Carrie928 Jul 15, 2007 09:33 PM

Can anyone identify this insect? We were camping in north central Pennsylvania when we found these. They are about 2 and 1/2 inches in length with a wing span of about 3 inches. There were actually three of these flying around. Two are pictured below (I think... I am new to this...otherwise it will be in an image link)and the third one had longer pinchers. I am assuming that the longer pincher-ed one was a female and the smaller ones were male. They were either attracted to our light or they were looking to prey on the moths and such that were there in the light.
I would really appreciate anyone who can help. These were really very interesting insects! I am really curious about them.
