ID insect/beetle in home in Colorado

Does anyone know what type of insect has invaded our house? And how to get rid of it?

We have these little insects that are all over our house. We live in Colorado Springs. They look like tiny beetles, and are found crawling on our walls, in sinks, in pretty much all rooms. As you can see, they have 6 legs and 2 antennae. They are quite small...about the size of a medium-sized tick. They are black, have no wings and can't fly. They play dead when you get close to them or touch them.

Can you tell me what they are? And, if you have any ideas how we could get rid of them?! They haven't destroyed anything that we can see, but they seem to be multiplying throughout our house.

I have good close-up pictures I could e-mail me if you would like.
