Can somone help me start an ant farm???

seansippo Oct 22, 2007 07:59 PM

Ok i am planning on starting an ant farm. I have read that i can use my 5 gallon fish tank to store them in. I am planning on just starting with a queen and letting the queen lay larvea and such and just let it go from there. I am looking for tips on getting a queen and what kind of sand i should use. I am mostly wondering if i should just go to the local park and dig up a queen or would it be more interesting to buy an exotic ant queen that i wouldnt find in the park. Where could i buy a queen even if it is a common ant, cause im sure a common ant queen wouldnt cost much. Also if it would be best to just dig up a queen how will i know which ant is the queen and what will be the easiest way of finding it?????

I never had an ant farm but this site I found seems to have a lot of information.
