It’s an unusually warm day here in Pennsylvania (61 degrees). It has been very cold though for the last few days before this. There is still snow on the ground in places. I saw a Small Milkweed Bug (Lygaeus kalmii) walking on the ground around patches of ice. Is this unusual? Are they normally active during the winter? I also saw a spider on the wall of the local Dunkin’ Donuts a few days ago when it was so cold the wind was stinging my face. When I nudged the spider it moved...it was definitely alive! Is this unusual? I never realized that insects were so active in the colder months.
