Interesting Find

wanyin Mar 05, 2009 09:26 AM

This huge ant came into my living room today. I put it under a glass to take it outside and noticed it had a much smaller ant holding on to its back leg. Strange. I have never seen an ant this large near my house. It was about 2cm long. I live in Melbourne Australia and we have recently had extremely hot and dry weather until yesterday when it rained for the first time in six weeks. I don't know much about ants but thought someone here would find this picture interesting. Any thoughts? Can I expect more large ants visiting my house? Hope you enjoy.

Wow, nice find =]

Looks like some sort of camponotus to me

What a brave ant... gives a whole new meaning to "pick on someone your own size"

For now, i'd just put her in a test-tube set up, or an enclosed container and put a wet cotton-ball inside

GOod luck with her =]
