What kind of spider is this?

turboyoyo Mar 15, 2009 06:48 AM

If it is a spider at all? I live in Belgrade, Serbia and after a field trip to the nearby forest, my sister's friend came up with a photo of a something that looks like a spider but it is too large, I think, for this climate. If anyone knows what this is it will be really helpful. The spider's body is about 5 cm long and legs are at least 7 cm long as well. The spider, as they told me didn't had hairs and the back was bumpy and leathery. I have two pictures of it but I don't know how to post it.

Go to the Pethobbyist's Photo Library and upload the photo's there.
When posting a message or response to a post, scroll down below the post and you should see a Photo area, just highlight the photo(s) you want to insert into the post and click on preview, if the post looks the way you want, then click on post message.

Also, if you do not have a picture to upload, you can browse an album of Spider Species

First determine if you have a web spider or a hunting spider (no web).

If it is a web spider, is it in a flat, round web (orb weaver) or a messy web, could be a cobweb spider, funnel web spider or sheet spider for example.

Once you have the basic type of spider set, species identification becomes much easier.
