Costa Rican Zebra burrowing?

AdamDispenza Jul 22, 2007 12:46 AM

If given the right conditions like a deep enough substrate, would a Costa Rican Zebra (Aphonopelma seemani) burrow? I'm thinking about trying out that new Zoo Med Excavator substrate. I've had this species before, with great success. But I've never had a New World species burrow before. I was wondering if this species would, if given the correct conditions and opportunity of course. Any feedback is appreciated.

A. seemanni is a burrowing species. They are much happier if given a deep substrate and allowed to burrow. Most Aphonopelma will burrow if given the opportunity, however most US species will adapt quite well to a non burrowing habitat. A. seemanni however is closer to being an obligate burrower than the rest of the Gerera. So, yes, by all means, get it into a burrowing habitat!
