I have a 3" Red-Kneed in probably too large a tank- it's ten gallons. I've had him two months. I keep water on a ceramic dinner-plate nested into the 6" of peat. He excavated under the plate and just stayed. I learned that this is probably normal, so I waited a month to lift the plate and drop a slightly crushed cricket in there. But I forgot about the water. He's stone-still on the surface beside his excavation now, the bait is just laying there, the plate back in place. His cave is pretty wet now, but I keep the temperature at 78f.

Any ideas about what his next move will be? He sure is beautiful. I will be relieved when he eats his first cricket.

It took him 16 hours to re-occupy his cavern. Is it too soon to put a crushed/wounded cricket in there? The top of his cavern is open. I wouldn't dare drop a lively cricket on him.

Hey Roger,
Your little guy is probably doing fine, I just wanted to ask you why you are using a crushed cricket? At 3" he should have no problem with a live one. The movement of it might help him to eat too.
