I think my new 3" Red-Kneed had to go through about four to six weeks of adjusting to it's new environment. I had everything perfect: nice deep peat moss, a dinner plate with 1/4 inch water in it for humidity and drinking, and a thermostat to keep the tank at 80 degrees. But he dug in under theplate and *nevre* came out, except possiblyat night. Finally, he started coming out and standing around, always very still. He sure is a beautiful creature. If I take the top off the tank to re-fill the water, he scuttles back inside his cave. This probably isn't a common practice, but I nested a high-sided, small soup bowl in the peat, and put several zoophobas in it. Unlike crickets, they don't pose any threat to the spider, and can't wander the cage. I should have put only two in there so I could see whether he eats one. I'm going to remove all but two right now. Plus, I put healthy crickets in there last night. I'll have to remove them today. Today I make the Pooter.
