Hi, I'm thinking about setting up a tank for king baboons. Can they be kept communally? If so, then how many could I keep in a 55 gallon tank?

Also, can poecilotheria regalis be kept communally? I've seen reports of them being kept together. If so, how many could I keep in a 29 gallon tank?

If neither of these can be kept communally, what is a good species that can?

Pokies, Avicularia sp & OBT's have been kept communally from what i have read. i never seen it personally. i am considering trying this myself in the near future. Unsure about baboons though. As long as there is plenty of hides and food cannibalism may be minimal...maybe! If you decide to try let me know how it goes or what your gonna use.

I don't believe C. crawshayi are communal. Avics are not communal. THey may tolerate each other for a while, but eventually cannibalism WILL happen. Some pokies have communal tendencies and regalis is probably one of the bettre ones to start with, but accidents can still happen. OBTs have been housed communally with success.

The only truely communal species that I'm aware of are H. incei and the "chicken spider" (not in the hobby, except in limited numbers in the UK).

Some Hysterocrates sp. have been kept communally as well.

The key to have sucess in communal tank is you need to start with sac mates that have been raised together. Don't just go buy random spiders and throw them all in together.

Ok thanks. If all goes as planned then I will have 3 or 4 cbb regalis, so I'll eventually set them up in a 29 gallon tank. When I get them they'll be about the size of a quarter, so it'll be a while befor eI set them up in a 29. Thanks!

Whatever you put them in, ensure that they have ample room and several extra hiding places to choose from.
