Help! My Tarantula hasn't eat in months!

mandibum Dec 28, 2007 09:50 AM

I have had my chilean rose for almost exactly a year. In the first few weeks of getting it, it didn't eat and then about 4 weeks later molted and got its appetite back. Everything was fine untill about a least 3 months when it stopped feeding agian, problem is it's not molted and is gettin increasingly less active, i hardley responeds to touch and has fallen off the side of it's tank a few times like it can't hold on, it still drinks though so i've been clinging to that as a good sign but i'm getting very worried.
If anyone has any ideas, help or advice for me i would be very greatfull.

T's basically fill up if you feed them too much. Unless you were feeding only 1 cricket a week, then it probably got full and stopped eating. Their metabolism is very slow and they excel at storing food. They will eat several at a time, every other day or so, but they don't need to. You'r T is just fasting and it'll molt when it is ready to. The falling off the side of the tank is common as they near a molt, and the pads on their feet wear down. To reduce the risk of injury, make sure the substrate is deep enough. Ideally the distance from the substrate to the top of the tank should be not much longer than the legspan of the T. That way it can't fall

Thank u so much for setting my mind at ease and for such a speedy response. I was getting really worried, Iv'e always wanted a spider even as a kid collecting them garden and would be gutted if the first one i got died on me. I will leave him/her be and just keep an eye on it till it molts so i can handle it again. Thanks again.
