Those two are good, but not the only best beginner Ts. Those 2 are usually recommended because they are the most readily available. The Mexican redknee (Brachypelma smithi) fits your requirements as being colorful, docile and large (6-7"
. Another one to consider is Grammostola aureostriata (Chaco goldenknee) it is docile as well and gets up to 8". Most other large Ts have a bit more of a temperament and I wouldn't call docile.
Where to find them? In a big city like Chicago It shouldn't be hard. Petco and just about any other mall-type pet store will carry G. rosea and maybe B. smithi. Call around to your local pet stores and see what they have and if they could order you in a specific species if they don't have the one you want. Look for stores that specialize in reptiles, they usually have a good selection of tarantulas as well.
