Losing Legs?

shedyourfears Feb 17, 2008 12:10 PM

I just got my first tarantula...

it is a young Pink Toe, probably about 1.5" overall length...

i just noticed that it is missing a leg... a friend got it for me on thursday from a large chain pet store...

i have read about tarantulas losing legs and being okay afterwards...

how severe is it for a tarantula to lose a leg? will it be okay?

will the leg regenerate?

i have NO idea how it lost the leg...i checked it's cage and couldn't find the leg, so i am assuming it lost it at the pet store and i just hadn't noticed it...

it was caged alone at the pet store, but that still leaves many possibilites about how the leg was lost...

it is completely gone...

i put some clear nail polish on the wound...is there anything else i should do?

thanks!
jessica

It'll be just fine. They do regenerate. When it molts next time you should see the leg back. It may be smaller, and may take a couple molts to get back to full size.

thanks! i was worried, this is my first T, and it would be pretty discouraging to lose it because of a lost leg...

thank you for the info!
