My new B. Boehmi

bpmori Apr 06, 2008 01:54 PM

I just invest some 100 for my new b.boehmi but im still a little weary if her new home is right. Currently im keeping her tank at about 77-79 degrees until i get a stronger bulb. my concern is if she will be ok until then. The substrate that shes living with is coconut, moss, and vermaculite mixutre but its still moist and seems to be taking forever for it to dry. Will she be ok or letting it dry out while my Boehmi is inside, will that run the risk of mites or lung infection? Im hoping that this brachy is as burly as the other ones.

I am not a T expert, but I would go w/ coco fiber only as substrate. Temp don't necessarily have to be so high. Most tarantulas are ok at 70-75. Keep the enclosure dry, a water dish is enuff.

Anything over 70 is good. What you have it at now, is probably ideal, I wouldnt try to get it any higher. Your sub is fine, and I wouldn't worry about getting it to dry out faster, it'll be fine until then. You don't have to worry about the nasties in your soil unless it is very wet for a long time. My only concern is using a light bulb for heat, that can make it too dry too fast, I wouldn't use anything over 40Watt. Ensure you keep water in at all times and dampen part of the soil from time to time.
