How worried should I be?

pavel Oct 18, 2008 02:25 PM

Picked up a B. smithii sling at a show last Saturday (Oct 11). It had just molted into its 2nd instar (old exskel was lying next to it). Well I've offered it a cricket 2X now (cricket body length was about same length as sling's body --cephathorax plus abdomen) but the sling just ignores it or runs from it. These are the smallest crickets I can obtain. Also finding it strange because I've had slings in the past to which I have had take much larger prey w/o a problem.

Should I be worried or might this be a case in which the sling's new exo has perhaps not harden up fully yet?

Give it a week before attempting to feed to allow the exo to fully harden. After that, it may just take a while for them to find interest in food. That's what I have found with B. smithi. I had one not eat for 30 days after a molt. You could try pre-killing the cricket too and see if that works.
