Help, My T is looking like she's dying

magnum1631 Oct 29, 2008 11:59 PM

I don't know if she's dying or just getting readt to molt. Since I got her two months ago, I haven't seen her eat. I have put large crickets in her cage, smaller crickets and waxworms to see if she'll eat anything. She used to be pretty active. I'd see her in a different part of the cage everytime I check on her. The last two days, she has been very lethargic. I don't know if she's getting ready to molt or if she's dying. I have Zoo Med Excavator Clay Burrowing Substrate as my substrate. Is it too hard for her? I mist occasionally. Too Much? Too little?
I've read that the tarantula will lie on their back to molt. She is kinda curled up with her legs almost underneath her. She is not dead. She will move around a little if I reach in to pick her up. I have a pic that I took. Maybe someone can give me some idea what is going on? Please email me at magnum1631@sbcglobal.net
Thank you for any help.

The pic didn't work. Let me try a different way.

What species is it? I don't know if that substrate is any good, I haven't heard of too many people using it.

Legs curled under is a sure sign that things are going downhill. My suggestion is to put the spider in an ICU (Intensive Care Unit). Take a delicup or clean tupperware container and put a moist paper towel in the bottom. Punch a couple air holes in it and put it in a warm and preferably dark place. Leave it for a day and check on it and see how it is doing. Hopefully it snaps out of it, but it doesn't sound good.

She's a G. Rosea. I will definately do the ICU. That substrate is clay stuff that hardens more that I expected. I also have some Repti-bark in there to hold any mostiure from the misting.
Thank you for the ideas.
