Photogenic Tarantulas?

Shiranui Nov 06, 2008 11:19 AM

I haven't owned tarantulas before (I have owned hissing cockroaches and run-of-the-mill praying mantises I caught around my house in California) and with college coming up, I won't have insect models available in winter. That's going to cramp my macro photography minor.

So I'm looking for a pretty photogenic tarantula. I dismissed the Cobalt Blue and King Baboon (too aggressive and frankly I don't want to chase a crazed tarantula around my dorm.) but I'm looking at the Green Bottle Blue since most accounts say they aren't completely insane. Any ideas?

Aside from having a calm spider that will sit still for you for a while, what else do you want? Is large size or color a factor?

I'd say that C. cyaneopubescens (greenbottle blue) may nto be the best choice. They don't usually respond too favorable to handling, are skittish and tend to flick hairs.

Some great docile spiders that will sit still for extended periods are Eupalaestrus campestratus (pink zebra beauty) and Aphonopelma hentzi (Texas brown).

Tell me some other things that you are looking for in a T and I can give you some more suggestions.

E. campestratus

A. hentzi
