Tarantulas for 1 gallon jars

hairyarachnoid Jan 04, 2009 12:02 PM

Hello. I'm new here.

I've been getting interested in tarantulas recently and I was wonder if there are any tarantulas that can be kept and bred in gallon jars. My reason for asking is that I have collected a number of 1 gallon glass pickle jars and plastic 1 gallon Rubbermaid jars over the years and was wondering if these could be used for eight-legged critters.

Thanks!

1 gallon jar are well suited for small arboreal species like any of the Avicularia. Maybe best to stick with plastic as you can drill/melt ventillation holes in the side. You can use glass but get better ventillaton when you can use more than just the top.

But the glass ones would be good to use for burrowing species. just fll the jar up about 3/4 of the way and you can use it for an obligate burrower.
