How long for new beardie to mellow out?

JoeyP Oct 12, 2003 09:08 PM

Well I just got my second berdie at the big reptile show in Tinley park (I'll have a picture in the next day or so). The booth that I went to (Crestedgecko.com) had a couple of bins of beardies. I picked one up and she ran right up my arm, I decided that's the one I wanted, VERY friendly, good size, and I liked the color. When I was talking to them about price I noticed that she was missing part of a toe, so they knocked the price down a bit (and I noticed she was also missing a toenail on another foot). Anyways, I get home, I quick set up a temp tank with lights, basking spot hiding spot etc. I plan to rearrange it in the next few days, I just wanted to get her into something. So I put her in she RUNS right for the basking spot and starts basking. Anyways I stuck my IR temp gauge in to get a reading and she faired her beard way out, and opened her mouth very wide, she really didn't like me reaching in at her. I understand that she's spent the last few days driving for hours, then in a bin with 10 other dragons, with 1000's of people looking at her and 100's picking her up and playing with her etc etc etc... And all of a sudden she's in a totally new enviroment all by her self. I know she'll need some time to adjust. Anyways, I'm thinking she'll be back to normal after a day or two right, maybe a little longer. Does that sound about right?

I'm glad she's doing well, I'm also gald I don't have an empty 40 gallon tank sitting next to me, and I'm glad I kept some of those lights, it all worked out very nicely. Can't wait to see the pics!
