does anyone else think this is the coolest thing ever! Do you think that i could do this with a beetle of my own, except i would like to have an adult beetle that would last a while. I would make a little snap so that the beetle would not have to carry the chain along all the time. I know that some people would not approve of this so please only reply if you have some constructive ideas. ie. Cage, Species of Beetle, Diet, etc. Thanks A Lot!

Sure, you can do that. I think it would be better to use an adult species that do not feed as adults. I have been very interested in this type of mexican jewelry for a long time. If you buy one of these in mexico, it is taken away at the border.
I cant even find a picture of one on the net. There is also somone making bracelets and such out of tubing, and they have live bugs crawling through the tubing. cool huh?

I design jewelry using dried specimens. Its awesome. If you want to see some pics, check out my ebay store (link at bottom) I think its the next best thing to having a live jewel. catch ya later, gin

Well, only a few years ago they were selling hermit crabs in shells fixed to be worn as pendants. The crabs were not too happy with the arrangement and died miserably, and the practice was made illegal as far as I know.

Beetles would make me far more nervous than crabs. I would not know for sure what they ate, or if they even had working mouthparts that they could use on me if they got cheesed off.

They probably still make Mexican Jumping Bean necklaces. As the pendant warms up against your skin they go all lambada-hootchie-cootchie.

Or you could fill a jar with Sea Monkeys and wear that around your neck. You know, like in "What About Bob?"
