Please help me identify this larvae.

flabuglady Apr 06, 2004 05:46 PM

I found this 2 " long larvae living inside a rotten log in Northeast florida. I assume it's a beetle larvae, though I have had no luck finding out what kind.

All of the mealworm and wireworm pictures I have found have some sort of pincher things on the rear end. This one is smooth and rounded.

It has really cool markings on the back.

Does anyone know what it is?

See my photo gallery for a side view.

Thanks,
Florida Bug Lady

Beetle larvae are notoriously difficult to identify as to species as keys are often written only for adults.

However, the larvae you've presented appears to be a wireworm, a larvae that should eventually mature into a 'click' beetle.

Cheers.

This beetle larvae is called mealworms. I feed them to my scorpions. I once had those in a small plastic cup and they chewed through it. And were escaping one by one lol. That is what their little pincers are for.
