ENDANGERED SPECIES BEETLE found in my backyard pond!!!!!

sushiking Jul 09, 2004 12:02 AM

I found this girl/guy floating in my backyard pond!!

I think it is a MOUNT HERMON JUNE BEETLE (Polyphylla barbata)

It has solid stripes but every description and I have read describes broken stripes. Anyone know for sure?

Nice looking Beetle though. Is the body worth anything to a collector? Am I even allowed to sell the dead body?

Since the stripes are not broken-up, I suspect that it is a:
Polyphylla decemlineata. 10-lined June Beetle which is closely related to the Mt. Hermon sp.

WOW! Under closer examination, I think you are right. They are VERY close. But, yes I think it is a Polyphylla decemlineata.

Thanks for the identification.
