Beetle identification

ReptiScott Sep 10, 2004 08:46 PM

Hello all,
I found this beetle in my yard the other day and I need help identifying it. It is about 1 inch long and a pale metallic gold, although in the photo it looks silver. I live in Salt Lake City, Utah, and have never seen anything like this here before. I let it go safely on its way after photographing this strikingly beautiful creature.
Thanks for any help!
Scott

Hi Scott
I think what you found is a Western Pine Borer, or Chalcophora angulicollis. Here's a pic of one so ya can think if it's the same one or not.
