Question about a beetle type bug in Asia

Hello, I am new and looking for somthing. My dad while he was in Asia got bit by a beetle type bug many years ago. It was orange and black, and it made his side turn black and blue for a couple days. I was wondering if anyone knows what this could be. And if it was poinsions. I am just checking for my knowlege.
