damage Aug 05, 2006 09:18 PM

I found this beetle down the street from my house late last night

it's roughly the size of the tip of your thumb (from the first knuckle to the tip) or a little over 1" long

i'm having a bit of trouble finding any information as to what type of beetle it is, I think its a stag beetle

any help will be appreciated

I would say it's a Scarab beetle in the genus Osmoderma; either: O. scabra or O. eremicola. If you do a search & utilize the location of where it was found, you can most likely pinpoint the ID.
